Your Weekday Intention for February 9

Today, I am aware that at my core I am a divine being, not my thoughts, my feelings, my behaviors, or my roles.  These are things I create or do, not who I am.

This intention is about living from the awareness of who you truly are.  Today, you will generate thousands of thoughts, experience a wide-range of feelings, and exhibit many behaviors as you go about your life in your roles as a mother/father, friend, coworker, brother/sister, and employee.  Sadly, we become so identified with the things that we do that they seem to be who we are.  But, in reality, we are the Presence that notices what we create and do.  Take a few moments right now and, using the steps below, feel that Presence within you.  Then, throughout the day, take a minute and reconnect to it.  That awareness of your divine presence will transform your day and all of your tomorrows.

For those of you joining us for the first time, I am posting a Weekday intention Monday through Friday at 6 AM Denver time.  You can receive these as I post them automatically in your email by going to blog.rjhandley.com and clicking the follow button and entering your email address.   Please join us in changing the world one person at time beginning with ourselves.

Just recently, I posted the first Weekday Intention.  I included it in the blog post that was the introduction to all the Weekday Intentions that follow.  It’s titled “The Power of Intention.”  If you would like to read it, follow this link: https://wordpress.com/post/blog.rjhandley.com/518 “The Power of Intention” post provides more about the philosophy behind intentions and how they can change the way that you respond to life at work, at home, and at play.

These intentions have helped keep me attuned and connected to God’s power, love, and way of life. I created them based on my studies of authors such as Michael Singer, Thich Nhat Hanh, Eckhart Tolle, Ram Dass, Deepak Chopra, Adyashanti, Bill W. and others who are recognized masters of spiritual psychology.

Starting your day with the Weekday Intention is a great way to boot up with the spiritual software that will help connect and attune you with your Higher Power. You will then find that your Higher Power responds to the intention by working within your environment and circumstances to support your intention.

Here’s how to activate the inherent power of each intention:

  • Before beginning the workday, find a quiet place to sit, free from distractions.
  • Let go of “doing” and focus on “being.”
  • Ask your Higher Power for the power to live your intention as fully as you can, knowing that each intention is something that you can do today that will improve who you are and bring about the best outcomes for all those you come in contact with today.
  • Breathe.
  • Place your hand on your heart and connect with yourself.
  • Say the intention to yourself until you can feel its power within you.
  • Ask your Higher Power to help keep you aware of and committed to each intention throughout the day.
  • Begin your workday.

Your Weekday Intention for February 7

Today, my presence and words will be a warm place for those seeking comfort in the storm.

This intention is about comforting others.  Life can get pretty stormy at times, as we all know.   Sometimes we are so involved in our own storms that we are unavailable to those around us who are suffering in theirs.  Let’s be attentive today to another person’s pain.  Let’s invite them to empty their hearts while we listen, without interruption or judgment, to their troubles.  Later, if the person would like us to problem solve with them, then we do so thoughtfully with care and compassion.  This is the gift we offer others.

Presence is the Present

I know this sounds a little wacky after we have all been steeped like tea bags in the waters of holiday commercialism. But the best gift we can give our loved ones is our presence. To be the gift.

It’s a simple decision to put aside our roles as brother or sister or as host or as student home for the holidays. To put aside all our expectations. To put aside resentments against family members. And to just BE with them. To show up as our presence.

Roles, behaviors, thoughts, feelings, and opinions are what we create. They are not who we are. When we take off these costumes and just let who we are become visible, we will be the luminous beings we truly are to all those who have honored us with their presence these holidays.

Some people associate the term presence with the same effort it takes to become a Jedi master. Kinda sad. To me it is as simple as just noticing. When we notice all that is around us, we are no longer in our anxious, work-a-day world thoughts and roles. We have become available to the vitalizing sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and textures of the holidays. We have become available to our families. We have become the gift.

And therein lies true beauty. And there is so much beauty to notice during the holidays.
